By now, you should know that video marketing is one of the biggest buzzes on the Internet right now with regard to online marketing. If you incorporate video onto your website or blog, you are likely to see elevated conversion rates on your sales pages, more engaged readers and a general boost to your position.
This is all well and good, but how can you take advantage of putting video on your site if you are just generally camera shy, not able to string two sentences together very well or are not the most attractive person to look at? Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be Naomi Watts or Gerard Butler to get in front of the camera and demonstrate your expertise.
There are a wide range of reasons why people don’t want to stand in front of the camera; for example they might think they have a squeaky voice, or are losing too much hair. I’ve heard them all – and let me tell you, none of them holds water! I want to go over some of the most pressing reasons why people don’t want to appear on camera and reveal these excuses for exactly what they are, that is just a reason not to engage.
“I’m not attractive enough to be on camera.”
Larry King. Oprah Winfrey. Sally Jesse Raphael. Geraldo. Joan Rivers. David Letterman. None of these much-filmed celebrities could be considered to be the ideal human specimen, yet all of them have made millions talking on-camera. It doesn’t matter if you have a receding hairline, are overweight, imperfect teeth, or have had too much plastic surgery; if they can do it, you can do it.
“I would be too tongue-tied to speak on camera.”
Few people are natural-born orators; most people require quite a bit of practice and refinement before they feel comfortable speaking while being recorded. This should not be an excuse for not trying though, as a little bit of nervousness can often make it better.
“The gear is too costly.”
This may have been true at one point in time, but not anymore. Indeed, you may well have all the equipment that you need right now without even knowing it. And if you don’t, you can get it for less than the cost of a new pair of shoes.
“I have a funny voice” or “I speak too quickly or too slowly.”
I can still remember when I first heard my voice on a tape recorder when I was a very small child. I couldn’t believe I sounded like THAT! We all think we sound (and look!) funny, but very few of us truly have unpleasant voices. And speed? We can fix that with a little practice!
“When people see me, they won’t like it.”
Any skilled online business owner who works as a virtual assistant will tell you that we are all insecure and wonder if we will be accepted, particularly when trying something new. But study after study shows that when an audience gets to know you through video, they like you BETTER. And that’s a fact. If you need some support to get it all done fast, consider hiring a virtual assistant, or even a virtual assistant team to get everything going fast!
By just telling you that you have some silly excuses won’t clear away the problem altogether, I know. But hopefully once you realize that many other people share the same concerns, you can agree to at least give this video marketing thing a try. After all, you never know unless you try it and if you still feel it’s really bad, you can always destroy the evidence at the end!
